Stairway Chandelier Height Guidelines
Because staircases create tall vertical spaces, proper chandelier height is important for both safety and visual balance. Stairway lighting should follow the slope of the staircase while maintaining comfortable clearance for people walking up and down.
As a general guideline, leave 18–24 inches of clearance between the railing and the bottom of the fixture, and ensure lights remain safely above the stair path.

FAQs
How long can the pendants be for a tall stairway?
We offer custom drop lengths up to 15 feet (or more). You can mix pendant lengths to create a cascading effect that fills the vertical space beautifully, whether your stairwell is two stories or has a vaulted ceiling.
Can I use a single junction box in the ceiling for a multi-pendant chandelier?
Yes. Our metal base chandeliers are a great solution for stairwells with just one junction box. You can have anywhere from 2 to 19 pendants, all suspended from one canopy, customized to different lengths and spacing.
What size shades do you offer for stairway lighting?
We offer shades in a wide range of sizes from 6" to 16" in our globe shade sizes. So, you can scale the fixture to your space. Smaller globes work well in clusters, while larger ones are perfect for bold focal points. It’s also important to note that you can use 2", 3", 5", and 8" globe bulbs, as well.
Can I customize the stairway light fixture’s color, cord style and canopy?
Yes! You can choose from several cord options (rope, chain, round or twisted fabric wire) and base styles in wood or metal, with finishes like matte black, white, nickel, or walnut. We'll help you create a fixture that fits your home's style.
Will the light be bright enough for the whole stairway?
Our LED bulbs are 4W and 400 lumens each, so a multi-pendant chandelier provides ample light when combined. We also offer a variety of color temperatures (2200K, 2700K, 3500K), and all bulbs are dimmable with a compatible switch to help you control the mood and brightness.
Do you offer installation help or support?
While we don’t install directly, our fixtures are designed to be installed by a licensed electrician. For step-by-step assistance, check out our installation guides. We’re also available to answer any technical questions and can coordinate with your installer if needed.
